ABSTRACT

Social connection is an important determinant of health and well-being. Older adults with limited financial states (actual or perceived) experience higher levels of social isolation and loneliness. In this chapter, we describe existing concepts that bridge aging, social connection, and socioeconomic status, discuss existing research as well as highlight opportunities relating to these intersections. Each of these areas of focus has garnered increased attention amid the COVID-19 pandemic. We anticipate that they will continue to be relevant for the foreseeable future. Thus, practitioners, researchers, and policymakers will have ample opportunities to advance, practice, and research policy in this realm. We hope that this chapter offers a deeper understanding of existing knowledge and future opportunities.
