ABSTRACT
This chapter summarizes the evolution of technology in Europe from prehistory to the present. This implies knowing its enormous social and economic impact that, since the 16th century, led it to world domination at a political, economic, and cultural level. The forms of work, sociability, and great technological advances, with moments of accelerated changes, innovations, or revolutions, give rise to profound consequences in the exchange of people, goods, and ideas. The mastery of technological advances allows us to understand the hegemony of various empires, shaping a world tailored to the West and its main powers for centuries. A social and economic history, of great relevance to understand long-term political and cultural changes, as well as the concentration of wealth and inequality is provided.
