ABSTRACT

This text is interested in learning about the evolution of power in the history of Europe. Likewise, this study deepens the knowledge of the social structures associated with power, since these structures have been decisive in the construction of European history over the centuries. Thus, social position, wealth and property have been shown to have a close relationship with political power, creating different types of prominent groups such as the aristocracy, the nobility and the oligarchs. However, these and other terms are often used interchangeably and without their historical contexts. In this text we also approach concepts such as democracy, nationalism or nation-state, concepts related to power and the foundations of today’s Europe. Finally, this chapter offers a proposal to address the study of power through transversal themes.
