ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the notion of narrative competence with the intention of understanding what insight the study of narrative in history can offer to education. More specifically, it aims to examine why the teaching of history needs to include the narrative dimension if educators want students to develop more powerful understanding and uses of the past for orienting their practical lives.
