ABSTRACT
While sustainability is widely taught in dedicated courses within architecture programmes, the integration of the concepts and principles into the curriculum more broadly and design studios in particular has been problematic. This chapter aims to be useful to those programmes and academics that want to address this challenge and reflects on how to make changes. The chapter begins with a survey of previous research studies on the topic and then addresses the issue by making some suggestions that are informed by the authors’ own efforts to create sustainability transformations within existing institutions. The suggestions intend to be a conversation starter to inspire much-needed change for better practices of integrating sustainability within architectural education.
