ABSTRACT

thyssenkrupp Uhde is a leading global technology provider for chemical plants such as ammonia and methanol plants, while thyssenkrupp nucera provides world-leading water electrolyzers, which will be installed as part of the Neom project. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of thyssenkrupp’s pioneering partners in its efforts to create a sustainable world.

This chapter represents the cost-saving potentials through scaling effects as well as the development roadmap for thyssenkrupp nucera’s alkaline water electrolysis. Furthermore, the company’s involvement in several research projects related to the hydrogen value chain will be explained.

Disruptive technologies such as seawater electrolysis or floating desalination plants could enable the utilization of seawater in the future. Currently, these kinds of technologies are on different maturity levels. SYNLIFT, one of thyssenkrupp’s industrial partners, is displaying a new approach for a sustainable water treatment.
