ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews contemporary research on higher education in Sri Lanka. The political and economic changes in the past decades, and resulting changes in its social fabric, have impacted this sector greatly. The review finds three key areas of foci. One is graduates and employability. Related to this, the second focus is university governance and restructuring, including the impact of World Bank loans. The third key area is conflicts, including issues of ragging (or hazing), student and faculty protests as well as sexual harassment. These three key areas show the main concerns of higher education in contemporary times.
