ABSTRACT
The chapter examines the evolution of anti-corruption narratives in the Italian media landscape over the past 30 years through the lens of politicization. It proposes a typology of anti-corruption narratives in public media discourse, categorized by anti-corruption approach (repressive or preventive) and the degree of political polarization (high or low). The polarized anti-corruption narrative—both repressive and preventive—has surfaced, amplifying an ongoing political confrontation. This has not only confirmed but also intensified the entrenched partisan tendencies in journalistic coverage, further polarizing public debate. The chapter draws on findings from multiple studies conducted by the University of Perugia’s media research team over the past decade, utilizing diverse research methodologies.
