ABSTRACT

The chapter examines a small number of esoteric samizdat publications, focusing on a narrower segment: astrological samizdat, including handwritten materials (private records such as course notes and sketchbooks), carbon and photo negatives’ book copies circulating in the Soviet and early post-Soviet periods. These samizdat materials or fragments thereof, as well as oral testimonies of astrologers, allow the author to uncover and reconstruct the production, spread, and underground educational practices of astrology in the late Soviet era.
