ABSTRACT
This chapter is a guided immersion into Mapa Teatro’s work in live arts, with a focus on the project De los dementes, ò faltos de juicio/Of Lunatics, or Those Lacking Sanity, commissioned by Museum Reina Sofía in Madrid in 2018. Organised according to key terms orientating the reader’s journey into their politics and poetics, the chapter explores the idea of ‘replica’, suggesting that Mapa Teatro’s intervention in the Reina Sofía not only complicates the terms in which the relation between liveness and the museum is usually addressed, but also offers a generative epistemological contribution to thinking the idea of modernity, in which the museum institution is intrinsically embedded.
