ABSTRACT
Technology has the potential to radically reconfigure experiences of sexual pleasure and the intersection of intimacy, bodies, and health. However, often sex technologies are designed within capitalist logics and reproduce patriarchal heteronormative norms. This chapter explores how a feminist design practice can inquire and reimagine the design of sex toys and how pleasure is produced by technology. The author presents three cases from her own design practice and contributes three feminist activist strategies for designing sex technologies: 1) trouble dominant sex technology, 2) express a plurality of desires, and 3) reimagine pleasure. These strategies invite researchers, practitioners, activists, and educators to integrate designerly practices to support feelings of pleasure and open conversations about the importance of sexual health in everyday life.
