ABSTRACT
Characterized by material engagement and exploration, arts and crafts early childhood education offers a great context for children to gain experiential knowledge of materials. However, education is facing a digitalization of materiality that may affect how children make sense of the physical world. In this chapter, children’s explorations of different materials by hand are examined as a case study through the theoretical lens of enactive philosophy. Not only the sensorial aspects of transforming materials and their materiality but also the educational benefits of the co-creative aspects of digital technologies and the intermeshed space between physical and digital materials are discussed.
