ABSTRACT
The chapter examines the practices of organising carried out by solo self-employed (SSE) workers across Europe. It analyses the initiatives developed by well-established trade unions in Italy and Germany, designing new services tailored for the SSE; grassroots groups of riders in the UK, Italy, and France, where radical actions go hand in hand with negotiations; SSE associations in Italy and the Netherlands, performing strikes and colourful demonstrations; and whistleblowing practices against bogus self-employment in Slovakia. The findings show that hybridity consists of the combination of practices belonging to a variety of repertoires of actions and their adaptation to changing organisational contexts as the key to developing innovative forms of organising.
