ABSTRACT

The research goal of the chapter is to analyse the main instruments and forms of action used so far by selected international institutions in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the context of their powers in this dimension. In separate subchapters of an article an analysis of the activity in this area of such international institutions like: the UN, WHO, the EU, and the Visegrad Group was made, because they play the most important role in the fight against COVID-19 and represent activity at three basic levels in this field, i.e. at the global, regional, and sub-regional levels. Analysis concentrated on such elements of the activity of each institution in the fight against COVID-19 like characteristics of law basis, existing instruments, mechanisms, procedures, institutions, and its effectiveness in this context. The chapter adopts a main hypothesis which assumes that the pandemic period is an important test of the effectiveness of the functioning of international organisations and their relations with member states and other international organisations, which indicates potential opportunities and problems of their operation during similar crises in the future.
