ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the concept of civic education is examined. It is seen as essential in democracy for the sound participation of members of society. Alternative forms of civic education are presented, along with the difficulty of finding space in the school curriculum for it. The role of civic education is at the center, with the argument that it includes the ability to think critically, make good judgments, and work with differences of perspective with a group. The research section by Lori Bush includes a specific proposal for civic education and support in current research for what it should be.
