ABSTRACT

The Leelah Play is a dramatherapy paradigm and a non-directive model. An Avatar is an alter-ego and describes the player's role during the sessions. It is a representative of the player during the therapy, and Leelah therapy is directed to the Avatar, not the player, meaning the Avatar is the one who gets the therapy. One of the roots of trauma is the dissociation strategy that allows people to distance themselves from a situation that may otherwise be unbearable. When dissociation continues when real danger no longer exists, it can prolong or even prevent recovery. The Leelah Avatar helps players move between situations smoothly and deal with dissociative problems. Using a case study, this chapter will present how the Avatar is built and how to work clinically with it in trauma care.
