ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the impact of sustainable tourism practices on natural resources, the economy, urban planning, safety and monitoring in the Algarve region. The adoption of sustainable and innovative practices has led to a reduction in environmental degradation, the preservation of natural resources and the promotion of eco-friendly infrastructure. Sustainable tourism practices have also contributed to the growth of the region’s economy, created new job opportunities and increased tourist spending. Additionally, implementing measures to enhance safety and security has improved the region’s reputation as a responsible tourism destination. Therefore, through collaboration between stakeholders, policymakers and researchers, sustainable tourism development can be promoted and monitored while ensuring the long-term viability of tourism and prioritising the protection of the environment and the well-being of local communities. Overall, adopting sustainable tourism practices has brought benefits to the Algarve region. Still, continued efforts are necessary to protect the region’s natural resources and cultural heritage for future generations.
