ABSTRACT
This essay outlines the genesis of the Polish crusading terminology and rhetoric. Using the approaches of the Begriffsgeschichte, it particularly focuses on the loan word krucjata taken from Louis Maimbourg's Histoire des croisades pour la délivrance de la Terre-Sainte and the linguistic, cultural and political contexts in which this term as well as similar crusade words have been used in the Polish language throughout the centuries.
