ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the different responses to the crisis that emerged in Orthodox Christianity as the COVID-19 pandemic started to spread in March 2020. Finnish and Swedish Orthodox priests’ responses to the crisis are scrutinised here from the perspective of lived religion. In these two countries, Orthodox communities represent Eastern influences and are in minority positions in relation to the (Lutheran) majority religion. The focus of this chapter is on how, in the midst of the crisis, these minority Orthodox communities responded to the crisis, what problems emerged, and how solutions were crafted by priests in worship, togetherness, and the sense of community.
