ABSTRACT
The Israeli legal system is adversarial. It is based on common law (judicial precedent) and reflects the country’s history under Ottoman and British regimes before its independence. The Declaration of Israel’s Independence 1948 claims a constitution will be written for Israel, although that has yet to happen. Instead, the declaration outlines the Basic Laws of Israel, which function as constitutional laws.
