ABSTRACT
Oman’s legal system is adversarial and is based on two primary legal codes: the Penal Law (Royal Decree No. 7/2018) and the Civil Code (Royal Decree No. 29/2013). The judicial system in Oman is divided into civilian and military branches. The civilian court system is structured in multiple levels, starting with courts of first instance, then courts of appeal, and, finally, the Supreme Court. The lower courts of first instance deal with the initial stages of cases, including civil, criminal, and commercial matters. The appellate courts handle appeals, with the Supreme Court serving as the highest judicial authority for civilians in Oman. The military has its own courts that handle offences committed exclusively by military personnel.
