ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of the legal, clinical, and organizational framework of forensic psychiatry in Türkiye. It outlines the principles of criminal responsibility, compulsory treatment, and civil commitment, and describes the structure and current capacity of forensic psychiatric services. Key challenges—including limited specialized legislation, high patient turnover, and resource constraints—are highlighted alongside recent developments such as the establishment of high-secure units. The chapter concludes with future directions for strengthening forensic mental health care and research.
