ABSTRACT

Argentina has two judicial systems: federal and provincial. Although a penal code (Congress of the Argentine Nation [ Congreso de la Nación Argentina], 1921) is enforced throughout the country, each province has its own procedural code. The Argentine National Constitution (Constitución de la Nación Argentina) establishes that Argentina adopts a representative, republican, and federal form of government. Each province has the autonomy to create its own institutional framework and enact its own procedural codes for criminal, civil, and commercial matters. However, all provinces must protect individual rights and guarantees recognized by the Constitution for all citizens.
