ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will present two projects carried out in Portugal, from July to November 2021, involving two groups of people marginalised in society: one group, with Roma people, under the theme “Paracity: Crossing Bridges” and another group, with unemployed people, with the theme “Being Together”.

The themes were chosen during the collaborative work with the group and describe the type of work performed.

“Paracity: Crossing Bridges” is a metaphor for the configuration of the place where the Roma group lives, as well as the path taken by the artists when entering and leaving the neighbourhood.

On this path, the artists circled the neighbourhood and met the people in the group, saw their social and family dynamics and invited them to work sessions. This was an essential first step for the participants to appear and the work to be made visible.

“Being Together” became the objective of the unemployed group, a group that was formed with the project and that understood the importance of creating relationships and becoming a support and work group.
