ABSTRACT

This chapter shows from a non-Roma research position the course of teaching children from the Roma community in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. The research strategy focuses on mapping a structure of the educational programme for an exhibition of exclusive artefacts of high culture and on reflexive strategies of the educator who seeks a communicative approach to Roma children. Her teaching methods are confronted with opinions of experienced teachers who work at the given inclusive school. An interesting aspect is the socio-cultural background of the project participants and our dilemma, whether to approach them as an “ethnic group” with a specific, own culture or to communicate with them as with any children who are supposed to acquire cultural competence through education.
