ABSTRACT

Sustainable product-service system (S.PSS) is a crucial sustainability business strategy which informs the design and delivery of sustainable product-service solutions. The servitisation of manufacturing and the demand for sustainable business processes and solutions have given the strategy popularity in manufacturing, service, and government. Value is defined as product, use, or results-focused towards dematerialisation. Service design continues to promote collaborative working due to its multidisciplinary focus on developing solutions through a focus on processes. In this chapter, I combine my work on sustainable design, product-service systems, and service design to demonstrate the evolution of my research work as a scholar of sustainable design. Special features in this integration include tools used to develop and communicate solutions and high-level processes, especially resulting from my doctoral research. The context of this work is Botswana. The chapter concludes by proposing future directions for implementing S.PSS and service design in developing countries to shape the future of product and service development and create sustainable economies.
