ABSTRACT
This chapter presents an overview of the unique partnership between BMW Group and Queensland University of Technology (QUT), highlighting their leadership and commitment to ambitious sustainability targets. BMW Group’s six megatrends, encompassing versatility, connectedness, tailor-made solutions, humanisation, emission-free energy, and diversity, form the foundation of their vision for the future. With its human-centred, creative, and sustainable approach, design aligns closely with these megatrends, offering valuable skills and capabilities for the BMW Group. The BMW Group + QUT Design Academy, founded to connect design expertise with BMW Group’s future strategy, plays a pivotal role in embedding designers in non-design roles to explore emerging technologies and achieve BMW Group’s ambitions. The chapter highlights the partnership structure, demonstrates the role of design in achieving sustainability goals, presents cutting-edge projects utilising digital tools, and aims to inspire other researchers to engage with leading corporations for a sustainable future.
