ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces and provides context for the book. It briefly describes the current global context of “polycrisis” and describes the ways in which international cooperation may contribute to mitigating this. It then presents the Global Association of Master’s in Development Practice (GAMDP) as an example of such transnational, cooperative practice. Background to the setting up of the Association is provided and its focus described. The chapter considers the way in which the shift from the Millennium to the Sustainable Development Goals shaped the evolution of the Association and teaching in the MDP network. It concludes by describing the development of the book and outlining its structure by giving brief descriptions of the contents of the different chapters.
