ABSTRACT

Culturally responsive and sustaining teaching can help build connections with our students, be invigorating, and reignite the fire you once had for teaching. In this chapter, I explore the question, How do I use culturally responsive and sustaining and trauma-informed practices in my classroom? I draw on instructional resources, student work, attendance and grading data, and reflections as a teacher as sources. I also describe a set of collaboratively developed interdisciplinary classes, and schoolwide structures that help support these strategies.
