ABSTRACT
The chapter describes different initiatives in schooling, heritage schools, and higher education systems of different European states concerning Ukrainian language and Ukrainian studies. It highlights changes that have started within the country and were defined as language shift from Russian to Ukrainian and continues with a description of various educational policies and practices, and mechanisms of including and emplacement refugees into the host countries. The focus is also on decolonization efforts in higher education that bring Ukrainian studies as a separate discipline field instead of including it into the broader fluid concepts. Language is central also for Ukrainian studies field, because it shapes professional expertise in different areas, such as political and social sciences, economy, history, and cultural studies.
