ABSTRACT

Based on the project of a collaborative performing arts lab, this chapter aims to illustrate and discuss the structural conditions for artistic development work in the performing arts sector. The joint lab would function as an arena for collaborative testing of how to artistically strengthen and develop the performing arts for a more diversified and digitally-oriented audience. I argue that the preparatory study is an interesting case of cross-fertilisation between higher arts education and institutional performing art practice, and that it offers a vantage point to understand the dynamic relationships between policy, artistic research, and development work within performing arts institutions.
