ABSTRACT
This chapter situates the discussion of technological change into the Swedish labour market context and provides a brief historical overview of the origin and evolvement of key Swedish institutions, such as the Swedish Model and Solidaristic Wage Policy. However, the economic crisis in the 1990s is regarded as a formative moment that saw major institutional changes, including welfare state institutions, public employment, macroeconomic policies, the industrial relation system, as well as other labour market institutions. The chapter ends by discussing the possible implications that transformations of the Swedish model may have for the direction of occupational change.
