ABSTRACT

The neighbourhood-built environment can play a critical role in promoting the physical, mental, and social health of people living with dementia. We present the results of the ongoing research project DEN-HB in Germany, which examines enabling and hindering aspects of the neighbourhood-built environment, to derive recommendations and a catalogue of principles for more dementia-friendly neighbourhoods. We use a mixed methods approach consisting of an umbrella review, an innovative 360-degree wayfinding-study using digital maps, and participatory stakeholder workshops. This contribution summarizes the study, briefly describes preliminary results, and gives an overview of the project's next steps and expected results.
