ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes the book, COVID-19, and mental health in Africa- communitarian perspective. As the book has shown, the COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted mental health across Africa. The book has highlighted that African communal values and solidarity were vital in protecting mental health during the pandemic. The chapter argues that integrating cultural paradigms into mental healthcare can make interventions more holistic and participatory. Investments guided by communitarian ethics of social justice and collective prosperity are needed to expand access to mental healthcare services. Gaps exposed in mental health systems and knowledge indicate critical areas for African-led research. Overall, moderate communitarian principles provide a valuable framework for promoting mental well-being in Africa after COVID-19.
