ABSTRACT
This introduction outlines the origins, definitions, and delimitations of the Maya Forest as a conservation project of high territorial impact, entangled with the region’s historical and contemporary borderings and transformations. We introduce our analytical notion of forest waterlands, which is employed in this book to explore the nexus of Maya/forest/water/lands. Through different mappings, we describe our study region, identify three transboundary corridors applied in this book, and address key studies related to the Maya Forest waterlands. At the end, we explain the research conducted and used in this book, structured around five different chapters to follow.
