ABSTRACT

This introduction situates Experiments in Art Research: How Do We Live Questions Through Art? as a shared experience, an invitation to join overlapping communities that might, now, include you. In doing so, we use moments from our lives to gesture toward how our art research scholarship grows out of relationships, and we offer “permissions” as a conceptual frame for the way our sense of what’s possible grows and bends through the soil and storms of our communities’ lives. We situate some of this volume’s formal moves (“connection stories” between chapters and invited “companion pieces”). We propose, instead of instructions or best practices, a camaraderie between works in progress—past, present, future, and blurred through time.
