ABSTRACT

Is it possible to meet in gestures? This piece conveys the experience of a 16-month process of relational and creative study gestures as a site of encounter. The text takes the reader through brief segments of the gesture study, emphasizing the critical role of witnessing in this kind of practice and discussing its evolution as a screendance that functions as an anarchive (SenseLab, n.d.) of the process. This is a form of study where knowing requires embodied awareness, commitment to care for others’ stories, and the witness’ active engagement with events. This text and the practice from where it emanates advocate for forms of study that center all parties’ ethical involvement in knowing.
