ABSTRACT
With usage of literature from Botswana from the year 2000 to the year 2022, this section investigates the living conditions of people aged 65+ in Botswana. The findings will be used to inform the praxis and decision-making in the area of the elderly and disability in Botswana. In Botswana, any person 65 years of age and above is declared elderly. Ageing leads to disability. Not all elderly persons are disabled; not all elders in the Botswana context are aged. An objective of this chapter is to develop ways to care for the disabled, aged elderly persons in the context of Botho Ethics. Inclusivity and right recognition/placement are core components of Botho Ethics. Botho is part of the worldview of Batswana that has to do with shared collective humanness, making invisible inequalities between people visible. This means that Botho Ethics correlates with justice among aged elderly persons. The chapter advocates for the aged elderly to be recognised as disabled and to be included in policy development addressing their needs.
