ABSTRACT

This chapter details the influence and effect of religious hermeneutics and African philosophies on disability, with a focus on the support of learners with various forms of epilepsy, such as, generalised, focal, combined and unknown in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It begins by introducing the condition of epilepsy, drawing on national and international research, and descriptions from various viewpoints are explored. The chapter also covers the causes, signs, and effects of epilepsy, with a focus on support to children, both at home and at school. It aims to address the subject of how African philosophies and religious hermeneutics affect and impact disability and how to support students who have epilepsy. Three different religions, namely, Rastafarianism, Shamanism and Christianity are discussed in order to respond to this central query.
