ABSTRACT
This chapter presents a new Quality of Life (QoL) and Quality of Place (QoP) framework and analysis at the neighbourhood level, focusing on everyday lives of ordinary residents. This is contrary to most QoL studies done at the city level mainly for cross-city comparison. Based on surveys and 241 additional in-depth interviews with residents, the bottom-up data analytic process reveals the various factors that affect the residents’ perception of QoL as well as QoP, and what matters to them most, which can be measured through 67 objective and subjective indicators. The framework that consists of 7 life domains and 19 sub-domains then allows planners to perform analytics comparing different towns, neighbourhoods, and resident segments, and to derive targeted approaches to support residents’ complex needs, which are explained in the following chapters.
