ABSTRACT

This article examines the economic basis and the role of money, a critical factor that has not yet been considered in embedding the cooperative economy in the wider global economy. After a brief reflection and correction of the image of money and its concrete forms as currencies, the economic need for a better-designed currency is expressed. This need has already been recognized several times throughout the historical development of the cooperative movement. The author then proposes an updated model for cooperative organization and demonstrates how cooperative values and goals can be better achieved by integrating an internal currency into the historically derived model of a Full Cooperative. The model is then outlined in more detail, especially with the design issues of the internal currency. In addition, newly developed exemplary principles are presented and supplemented with approaches to assessing the legal situation and a conceivable transformation.
