ABSTRACT

Digital innovation hubs (DIHs) are part of the EU’s digital strategy to promote the competitiveness of European industry and the continent’s carbon neutrality goals. Their strategy aims to support the uptake of digital technology opportunities, sustainable growth, and prosperity. Currently 400 digital hubs or clusters are registered on the European Cluster Collaboration Platform. This chapter first adds to the general discussion on DIHs as supportive ecosystems and underlines their role as drivers of regional competitiveness, innovation capacities, and digital transition. Secondly, it focuses on Finland, the country with the highest IT skills in the world, and specifically on the Arctic Development Environments Cluster, which has recently been approved by the European Commission as the first official DIH in Lapland.
