ABSTRACT
Portugal boasts a rich legacy in Landscape Architecture education and practice within Europe. However, its history remains undocumented and untaught in universities, leaving it vulnerable to a practice lacking theoretical foundations. Addressing this gap by examining the underlying factors contributing to the lack of a comprehensive history of Landscape Architecture in Portugal, listing the existing Landscape Architecture records in Portuguese institutions and discussing their role in shaping historical narratives, this chapter emphasises the need for improved archiving practices and enhanced access to primary sources, and it explores how archival practices can be integrated into Landscape Architecture education. It underscores the urgency of bridging archival practices with Landscape Architecture academic programmes to ensure a deeper understanding of Portugal’s Landscape Architecture heritage can be achieved, enriching the field’s education and practice together with its history.
