ABSTRACT
The notion of implicit discourse relation, defined as those lacking connectors, has undergone significant changes with the research of other signals indicating relations. In this context, the main objective of the chapter is to review and clarify the definition of implicit relation, as well as to delve into the fundamental principles that determine its formation. The analysis of implicit relations exposes the shortcomings of the code perspective derived from the signal-based approach. Therefore, it is concluded that it is essential to integrate principles of discourse construction and interpretation to comprehensively address the study of discourse relations, whether they are implicit or explicit.
