ABSTRACT
This Coda is a brief extract from a conversation by the three editors of this book, transcribed and then lightly edited, to provide insight into the thought processes and ideas that helped shape this volume in its early stages, and sustained it during its long gestation. The conversation focused on the futurity of Indigeneity, but all the chapters in this book recognize difference in a relational way, although they do this in radically different contexts. Perhaps a transcultural art history would not be able to overcome its implicit ontological dualism, whereas transcultural art histories in the plural would be able to do so by considering altogether different ontologies and epistemologies. What is most clear from this excerpt is that the passion and excitement for ideas was never separated for long from the work that inspired it, and the desire to engage with objects and processes of making.
