ABSTRACT

The chapter explores the concept of mystical gnosis within the framework of esotericism and advocates for the necessity of a new understanding of truth, divergent from the conventional notion assumed by Western philosophy and theology. This alternative perspective on the truth of the μυστικον is investigated by delving into Heidegger’s distinctive viewpoint on the mystery of Being. The focus is on Heidegger’s divergence from Western metaphysical principles and traditional logic, particularly in his conception of Beyng as self-concealing. This departure serves as a lens to reveal a more profound sense of hiddenness in mysticism, to which the traditional notion of truth is inapplicable. By exploring Meister Eckhart’s ideas on releasement and detachment, the chapter illustrates that the concealed nature of mystical truth is intrinsically connected to the essence of spiritual transformation and can only be attained through it. Within Heidegger’s philosophy, this concept of “truth”, referred to as the “truth of Beyng”, is interpreted as an aporetic truth, offering a unique framework for understanding esoteric knowledge distinct from conventional theoretic truth.
