ABSTRACT

Despite apparent disparities, philosophy and esotericism share close ties, as evident in their historical roots and contemporary parallels. This chapter explores their interconnectedness, revealing that both pursuits, whether undertaken by professional philosophers or practitioners of esoteric disciplines, converge on significant similarities. Early philosophical inquiries were inherently esoteric, accessible only to a privileged few, and modern philosophy often delves into questions within specialised frameworks. Additionally, this chapter will highlight two critical parallels – expressibility and the transcendental. Both esotericism and philosophy consider expressibility pivotal from the perspective of reliability and accuracy. Furthermore, the transcendental emerges as a key focus of investigation and a methodologically vital condition for both disciplines.
