ABSTRACT
This chapter presents the perspective of the disciplines of Economics and International Law on resilience as an area of research. The concept of the region was outlined, with the definition of regional resilience included in this context, along with an indication of its determinants. East Asia was identified as an institutionally and functionally distinct area that includes APT countries, and has dynamic political, economic, and social processes influenced by regional cooperation initiatives. The latter shape regional susceptibility to disruptions, as well as the ability to adapt to external shocks and slow burns, referred to as regional resilience. The identified critical determinants of regional resilience include regional leadership and governance, legitimization of regional cooperation institutions, entrepreneurship, and the potential of civil society.
