ABSTRACT
The European Union (EU) is currently conducting accession negotiations with the Balkan countries. In some cases, they are taking a long time; worse still, the date of their conclusion is unknown. This is a negative situation for both sides as the protracted talks do not serve to stabilize the region and for the EU, they represent the still unfinished integration of this part of Europe. The EU has become an inactive player in the Balkans, oblivious to the influence of Russia, China, the United States and Turkey. Currently, the only logical decision seems to be the group admission of all the six Western Balkan countries, which would undoubtedly translate into stabilization of the region and minimization of tensions both in neighbourly relations and (e.g., in Bosnia and Herzegovina) averting a possible internal conflict.
