ABSTRACT
This chapter covers two research projects with a number of common participants spanning 10 years. The projects address the evolution of the situation of former child soldiers from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These individuals, upon demobilisation, refused to be treated as victims and became young adults grappling with the complexities of reorganising their world. This analysis explores their ‘social navigations’ within and outside of military life, their perceptions of their status and position, and their claims as both former fighters and civilians in post-conflict Democratic Republic of the Congo.
